9 & 10 May 2021, who is sailing in these Covid times?

So, who are the people sailing along the Channel in these Covid times with such bad weather in the past 10 days? They are interesting people. Let me tell you...

Trifon, a "Lévrier de Mer" from "Le Guen et Hemidy", from 1990 (picture by Jean Cadin)

Our first neighbours is Trifon, a "Lévrier de mer" from the boat constructor "Le Guen et Hémidy", the same that constructed La Malouine, my previous Brise de Mer. They are six crews on board. They came from La Rochelle, and heading North to Iceland with a funny small carbon rowing boat on board, and a project...

The project is called "Rennes Pôle Nord", aiming at reaching the ice floe in Greenland to conduct research on the motion of the ices there under the climate changing conditions. You can see a good presentation video here.

Today, they were practicing the rowing canoe using a kite, as they are stranded like us waiting for better conditions to move forward.

Good winds and good seas to you!

The next neighbours is "El Cordero", a Swedish registered allegro 33 boat as its name does not indicate.

Two crews own board coming from Trinidad and Tobago, through Coruña in Portugal. They have at least eight return transatlantic cruises, plus one circumnavigation in 2007. I guess the crew and the boat has more than 100,000 nautical miles on their odometer! They are sailing back to Sweden, as they wish to (finally) enjoy a bit of sailing in the Swedish archipelago.

And that I can understand as I am going through mourning our years sailing in the Baltic Sea!

Not to mention our friends Fañch and Valérie from Cybèle 17, currently in Southern Brittany, whom we wish to see soon as we will be heading South.

Wednesday seems to present a new window of opportunity for passing through the Chenal du Four and the Raz de Sein. We will keep you informed!
