Strängnäs - Södertälje - Ankarudden, 4-6 June 2020

Continuing our journey from the Mälaren to the Baltic sea through Södertälje, we pass the lock and arrive in Ankarudden right in time for getting shelter ahead of a gale warning.

Torö is a top spot for kite surfing in the Stockholm archipelago

On the way, we meet Cinderella, confined in a dead pool aside the Södertälje fjord because of Covid while we saw her for years in Wasahamnen doing her rotation twice a day to Finland.

Early June is the season for herring fishing in the Baltic. Herrings migrating to the Baltic arrive here in early June in large shoals. They are so hungry that fishing them does not require using bait. Just drop a line with multiple hooks where they pass and you can catch a couple of them every couple of minutes. Once you know where to catch them, you can be assured of a miraculous draught of fishes.

The Södertälje fjord is one of these miraculous places. Just anchor your boat in the narrow straights delimited by the red and green buoys, and you can be assured of a delicious meal...

Ankarudden is one of the few remaining fishing harbours in the Stockholm archipelago open to anyone. It s very sheltered from all winds, and we chose it this time because of a gale warning for tonight involving winds 30 to 40 knots.

While most sailors look for shelters during gale warnings, kite surfers are getting out to enjoy winds and waves.
