Norrbyskär is our last stopover before Umeå. This island was once in the XIX century and up to the 1950's the largest steam powered sawmill in Europe.
Workers were accommodated on the island. Smoking and drinking was prohibited. Salaries were very high in order to attract the best possible workers. Four families were living in such worker houses.
Bargesd were used to load the timber on board sailing ships, to be delivered throughout the world.
