The Walpurgis night - 30 April 2018

We spent "sista April" (the last April [day]) with good friends in Löparö. We stopped there  on our way back from the north in 2016. This time, we went by car as the forecast was for two days of rain.

A view of the country side in Löparö island.
But this was the Walpurgis night, so much of a tradition in Sweden...
Walpurgis night, Valborg in Swedish, is not really a family celebration, but rather a community celebration around the last day of April to celebrate the arrival of spring ("Wilkomna våren"). We had a nice diner at our friend's place, which we brought "sous vide" by the way (Souris d'agneau en choucroute maison...).

Later, friends from the neighbourhood started joining outside the house to celebrate Valborg. The bonfire is at the centre of the celebration.

When everyone has joined, the group starts singing spring songs in choir.

On this short video, you will get a sense of the Valborg night in a Stockholm archipelago island. Enjoy! It concludes with a "Wilkomna våren"!
