From Kalmar to Visby, through Grankullavik - 27 to 29 July 2017

With the new crew in charge, we took a ride from Kalmar to Visby, with a stopover in Grankullavik, at the northern tip of Öland and where we had been on our way down south in late May.

9 knots average under spinnaker...

As we go north through the Kalmar sound, we pass the "blå Jungfru", an amazing small island that we would very much wish to visit, but which is hardly accessible.

Grankullavik is a very shallow bay, well protected, where we sake shelter along the jetty in Nabbelund. We love the place!

The sign is still there, but the ferries stopped coming here long ago and there has been probably many years since a car saw this sign. We are therefore safe!

This is a former wooden jetty that is no longer safe to use.
From there, it is a 42 miles to Visby, covered in 5 hours and a half, a close to 8 knots average. Great fun!

As usual on video, it is hard to realise the speed and tension during the ride. It looks so quiet and easy, which it was not. With the center board up, we did not get problems but we had to get rid of the spinnaker as the wind went up to 11 m/s (22 knots).

  1. Dear Belisama worshippers and Denis & Kaja supporters,
We are the “French old friends” who sailed with Denis and Kaja from Copenhagen to Visby.
Denis had promised us a Baltic sea (almost) as warm as the Mediterranean and a weather (almost) as sunny as the one of the French Riviera. The weather has been dark, agitated and wet (“temps pourri” in French) during our two weeks in Sweden but that neither impacted the crew morale nor prevented us to discover the charm and quietude of Sweden.
Belisama is a strong but very nice girl (in the French language, boats are males which changes a lot of things…) but her skipper should take care of her weight (…and of his own one but you all know how Denis appreciates such good pieces of advice (smiley)
Thanks again Denis and Kaja. See you soon on our board in Brittany or better in Corsica !
    Jean and Marie-Anne
