To Uvala Przine, 21 June 2023

Lavdara to Ilovik has been a 44 nautical mile trip along the islands of Dugi Otok, Molat and Premuda. We are still experiencing high pressure weather with winds predictably driven by the sun, resulting in light land breezes at night and weak sea breezes during the day, requiring extensive use of the engine to keep our schedule ahead of the announced bora episode next Saturday.

 Our dinner guest in Lavdara...

An additional few encounters along the way...

Below is the Kapetan Kuka, an excursion boat based in Rijeka. Kapetan Kuka is the Croatian name of Captain Hook, the famous character in the play Peter Pan. Kapetan Kuka is a 36-metre steel boat built in 1989, which can accommodate 34 passengers for cruises in Croatian waters.

Below is the Miky, a traditional cruising boat in the Dalmatian islands.

Today's sailing takes us past Dugi Otok, the 'long island' where the Yugoslavian army dug tunnels to hide submarines. Dugi Otok is only 60 miles from Italy and was once the border between communist and capitalist Europe. After Croatia's independence, the tunnels were abandoned and became a popular tourist attraction. It is possible to moor a boat at the entrance to the tunnels, but today, as we passed, all three tunnels on Dugi Otok were occupied.

We have not heard of any recent forest fires in Croatia, but we have been able to witness the ballet of Canadair aircraft refuelling in the waters between the islands.

We stop for lunch, swimming and snorkelling at Uvala Dobra, on the northern tip of Dugi Otok.

Checking my Spade anchor

And finding a rope around the propeller shaft!

1390 nautical miles completed as of today. Only 42 miles remaining to Pula... But today will be a very short sail to get to a cove better sheltered from southern winds expected during the night. I will dive to free up the propeller. We plan to depart around 5:00 in the morning to benefit from the southern winds in our final ride to Pula.
