Kökar, where the summer started..., 24 July 2019

Kökar is a group of relatively large islands in the south of the Åland archipelago. There are three marinas available there, one in Sandvik (59.940675, 20.883422), one in Hellsö (59.950326, 20.923333) and one in Kalby (59.92114, 20.912465). We chose the one in Hellsö and moored on a stern buoy, bow to the pier.

And here, we started experiencing the real summer, with temperature above 25°C during the day, and limited wind...

The approach to Hellsö gustier is straight forward, with a 2.7 m pathway.

The hamnkontor is in the local small supermarket where we can find some fresh food, most welcome.

Johan, on watch on the way to Kökar.
Kökar looks like a very well organised rural area. With only 235 inhabitants, while cycling around, we came across a library, an elderly care centre, an elementary school, a bank and a post office... On the Kökar web site, you can find all information should you wish to come and live in Kökar...

A May pole on the way to Kalby.

The Kalby marina, looking very cosy with restaurants and bars.

Well, there is much more to visit on Kökar, such as the church and the old Franciscan monastery, both close to the Sandvik marina, but too far for the few hours we had on the island while mooring in Hellsö.
