Four days in the Kornati islands, 12-15 June

The Kornati National Park, located in central Dalmatia, is an uninhabited archipelago comprising 89 islands, islets, and reefs spreading across crystal-clear waters. It is a paradise for sailors with lots of anchorages in protected coves.

After picking our cousins from France in Murter, we engage in an exploratory tour of the Kornati islands...

Given the very stable anticyclonic weather conditions for the coming days, we decided to go around Kornat island, the backbone of the park anticlockwise, to benefit from the various breezes alternating during the day (and night).

Our 56 nautical miles track, 12 - 15 June, from Murter to Murter

We depart 12 at 10:00 for Statival cove, at the northern tip of the Kornat island. Very nice close-reach sailing under Code 0 with 10 m/s winds. Most enjoyable.

During the night, we heard the soft-water pump getting on at regular intervals, without anyone using water. Suspicious... At first glance, we could not find any leakage and assumed it had been a tap not correctly closed and slowly dripping. But during the day, the pump started to run more and more often, and finally almost continuously. Still, no leakage along the water pipes detected, but significant water in the bilges. Then came the full inspection after emptying all stuff to access the bilges, to realise that it was the aft deck shower that was leaking heavily.

As the shower pipe was broken beyond repair, we decided to close the pipe at its connexion between the water system and the faulty shower pipe. After lots of searches for the proper closure piece, we opted for a one cent of Euro slightly adjusted using a battery-powered. And it worked!

The on cent of Euro repair!

The following morning, we go around Prolaz Proversa Vela, the northern tip of Kornat island to start heading Southeast.

We anchor in Levrnaka otok, in a very cosy cove well protected from prominent north eastern land breeze.

The following morning, we head up to the wooden pier to access the Fort Tureta, to get a chance to walk a bit and get an overview of the archipelago.

In the evening, we choose to go to the Piskera marina, to get a bit of power, WIFI and water. As you can see on the picture below, we feel lonely in the marina while mid-June is the start of the peak of the season. But the head of the marina tells us that Saturday night is always like this as it is the day of the start and end of the boat renting! Any other day, it would have been very busy!

It is rare to get along sailing ships under spinnaker as rental boats are not equipped with it.
