A night in Zavratnica cove, 22 June

We spent the shortest night of the year in Zavratnica (pronounce Zavratnitsa) cove, a well preserved secret 40 km south of Senj, along the Dalmatian coast. We were advised by my cousins who explored the coast in a camping car and with whom we sailed to the Kornati (see earlier posts).

Belisama in the Zavratnica cove, from the trail to Jablanac

This place is documented in Navily, the community forum for sailors looking for anchorages...
You cannot come across it by chance as you do not see much from the coast. You need to get in the "fjord" to discover the cove. In the cove, the water is pure turquoise blue and one could spend hours there. There s a small fee to pay to stay there as it is a protected park: 20€ for Belisama and 5€ per crew members. It is perfectly maintained and cleaned, and you know therefore what you are paying for.

There are only three hooks for the landline for bigger boats, and many more along the left side for small day boats. You should not anchor in the centre of the bay because, at times bigger excursion boats are coming in even though they don't stay. There if a wreck on the right, a German landing barge from the second world war, sank by the British.

Nothing more to say of do there than to enjoy every minutes of this small corner of paradise...
