To Propriano, 5-7 May 2023

We left the anchorage at the Sanguinaires Islands with some difficulty to head for Ajaccio, where we had to fill up our fuel tanks after crossing from Toulon almost entirely on engine power. We had to use the engine again as there was no wind.

The 350-litre fill-up was uneventful, having found the only working boat filling station in Ajaccio.

A view of Ajaccio as we approach

The marina in Ajaccio offers two hours of free boat parking, which gave us the opportunity to walk around and do some shopping. Strolling through the narrow streets around the port, you cannot miss the house where Napoleon was born in 1769 and the shops around it.

We left Ajaccio at 16:00 and headed south-west towards the cove of Cacalu to anchor for the night. We arrived there around 18:00 with the Corsican snow-capped mountains in the background. Mont Cinto is the peak at 2706m above sea level.

I just realised that we did not take any pictures in the cove the next morning. We had a very good time. I started by diving under the hull to change the anode on the propeller, then we spent a long time swimming around the boat and got bitten by poisonous medusas!

After lunch we left the place and headed for Propriano as the first week's crew were taking the ferry back to Marseille from Propriano today.
