Through Olhão to Cadiz, 28/09-1/10

Olhão is a busy fishing harbour along the Algarve coast protected by a lagoon. The entrance of the lagoon is shaky even at high tide because of the high winds and currents.

Olhão is a very traditional town centred around the fishing harbour.

Unfortunately, we cannot stay in Olhão due to a coming storm at the end of the week that makes us willing to reach Cadiz before it strikes. It is an 87 nautical miles ride that we will cover in 14 hours under spinnaker for most part, except the last few miles with a wind of 14 m/s (28 knots).

Interestingly, as we pass the harbour of Huelva, we are surprised by the 9 super tankers anchored along the shore, obviously full, awaiting their turn to deliver their liquid gaz. Is it a result of European countries preparing for winter in an unstable international context?

As we arrive at night with strong winds, we decide not to enter in the Cadiz marina but to anchor in front of Puerto Sherry, just across the Cadiz bay. The following morning, we cut across to the Cadiz marina.

And the storm came...
