Mariehamn - Nynäshamn, 29 July 2018

Mariehamn - Nynäshamn was the final segment our summer sailing. En route, we met a viking ship on her way to Täby, Sweden.

Quite a trip back in history...

The ship is called Viking Plym and was built in 1912 by August Plym. She is a half size replica of a traditional Viking ship and was built  in 1912 because of the Olympic Games taking place in Sweden this year.

The crew on board are in traditional Viking costumes.

Then we head south west towards Svenska Högarna while she is heading more westward towards Stockholm. The view of her sailing under her red stripped sail reminded me of the Bayeux tapestry depiction of the "Normands" invasions along the coast of Normandy, where the sight of such sails was creating panic along the coast. Such emotions seem attached to the genes of the Normands!

On the way, other nice encounters, such as this Nordic Folkboat under spinnaker. The boat was designed in 1942, and today, more than 4000 of them are still sailing around the world.

We arrived in Svenska Högarna after a one tack spinnaker ride and moored at the Svenska Kryssarklubben buoy, in uncomfortable waters as the swell enter the bay sideways to the wind...

The island accommodate one of the lighthouses along the coast of Sweden. A small shop is available to get some products. Just enter pick what you need, and put the money in the box!

The island, which I visited 5 years ago for the first time remains magic.

Incredible sunset from the boat on the buoy in Svenska Högarna bay.

The following day, we made it to Nynäshamn, a 60 mile ride, in one spinnaker tack again, arriving around 18:30 there, after close to five weeks and more than five hundreds miles.
