Just Porvoo, 7-9 July 2018

After a rapid stopover in Helsinki to get crew members on board, we cruised to Porvoo with a Finnish friend couple. Porvoo is one of the most famous touristic place in Finland. We appreciated it a lot.

The Porvoo tourist office says that this is the most photographed landscape in Finland.

Cruising to Porvoo from Helsinki is rather simple, but you should look at the details of the nautical charts when preparing the route to avoid arriving in front of a 17 metre clearance bridge that resulted in a significant detour... Very shallow waters reaching the centre of Porvoo, but not an issue for Belisama, clearly the largest boat having made it for this weekend.

Porvoo marina, 42€ per night, with electricity.
We booked through Internet, but the marina was not full.
The old Porvoo town is well preserved. We could not visit the XVth century church because of ongoing celebrations during the whole of Sunday. The church is famous, as it was the place where Finland was declared an autonomous Grand Duchy under the authority of the Tsar Alexander I, the Russian Emperor.

The most famous area is along the bank of the Povoonjoki river that gave her name to the town.

The bank of the river Porvoonjoki are very scenic.

There is a ski slope on the other side of the river, which is used in summer by mountain bikes!

The short movie below shows the return from Porvoo to Suomenlinna on 9 July, by sunny weather and nice back wind. Great pleasure!
