Waterstuff - 17 & 18 June 2017

Reflection in the tank water on left, under the hull exploration on the right... A watery weekend!
Quite a bit of corrosion on the anode of the propeller. In fact, the anode is no longer hold by the screws and moves, which is probably not very good when the propeller rotates. Similarly, the olive anode on the axis is completely eaten, indicating that it works perfectly. The anodes on the rudder and the heel are corroded, but still fine, not needing replacement. After removal, I am bringing everything to Stockholm tonight, before coming back next week with new ones! The antifouling is still perfect, without any barnacle or "vegetation". I will therefore not need to get the boat off water this year, which is a good savings compared to the investment in the diving equipment.

Looking inside the tank did frightened us. Big job, as to have full access to all opening, I had to remove the central table.  in the cabin. Huge deposit of dirt and calc. We have not been drinking it in any case, but looking at is does not make you want to even use it for showering!

To get all deposit out imposed to clean the pump filter very many times!

I installed a active filter on the hose I use for filling the tanks, and therefore, in the future, I should not have such a deposit anymore. At the same time, I fitted the water-heater anodes in the tank, as explained by Cybele and Arzal.

Anode fitted in the tank, and sealed on the outside.
This having been done, we still took time to visit the Kalmar castle, a very nice concentrate of history, architecture and art.

One reproduction of the carta marina, in its 1572 cooled version. More on this incredible chart here.... The original is at the Uppsala library.

  1. My tanks were more bad than yours, but now clean. The anodes Mg are attacked: proof they work! The anode Maxprop is like mine, and it's a pity they have only 3 screws instead of 6...
