Forgotten pictures... May 2017

Back home after the weekend, looking back at the cards in the various cameras, I found a few pictures which I took for sharing... Here they are in no order...

Arrival in Nynäshamn on Sunday, late afternoon.
I remain fascinated by flying swans.

Swan flying around Belisama in Huvudskär.
Aggressive guns still threatening those passing Landsort...
Quiet Norman harbour before the midsummer rush.
Last Thursday, before departing for the weekend, waiting for a crew arriving from Slovakia, I decided to service all the winches. Straight forward, yet much needed as few points of corrosion were already visible. I used the winch grease from Lewmar, but probably any good quality grease would do. The six winches of Belisama took me a good three hours to service!

Finally, we experienced serious flowing back on both toilets in Belisama, almost filling-up the toilet bowl with the back flow. Bad smell is one thing, but sailing in heavy sea will invariably get the stuff over board God knows where...

In despair, on ascension day with all shipchandlers closed, I decided to practice some surgery and apply a "cerclage" that was a full success for the weekend. You can see however that the lips of the joker valve are no longer touching each other, with some concretion deposit, clearly indicating the need to change them rapidly. The elastic did collapse them nicely, still allowing flowing through. The lesson learned is to always flush the toilet with lots of water to avoid damaging rapidly the valve. The problem is during winter when you cannot move the boat to the black water pump, and you try to save on flushing amount of water for allowing some use of the toilet at night when it is freezing cold outside...
