Meeting with a nevera on the way to Venice, 21 August 2025

On our way to get kids and grand-kids on-board on 22 August, we moved to Venice on 20 August to make sure we are there when they arrive in due time because of weather forecast.

The 15 hours ride was planned during the night in order to land early morning in Venetia, ahead of some unstable weather anticipated...All started as planned as on the picture above: clear sky, nice side wind, just a dream before reaching the Venice lagoon that we start to know pretty well. After a quiet night of navigation, we waked-up with a concerning horizon indicating strong activity ahead of us.

Where are we heading to??

Even though this did not look exceptional and given what we had experienced in the Baltic and North seas, but he shape of the clouds, the water sprouts generated, triggered a bell tt we should avoid crossing the path of this squall.

We ended-up in a complete non-sense set of storms facing us, requiring us changing path to adjust.

Below is the radar screen capture of what was ahead of us.

At ehe end, we encountered one of the toughest storm we met across 20 years of sailing, with 50 knots winds calling from running away, as you can see on the path below, before attempting to get to some ashore shelter in the laguna, all of this, of course happening after a full night of sailing in a moonless night...

Finally, we made mid-day to the San-Giorgio marina to welcome kids and grand kids.
