One more Pictor Church, Täby, 10 September

After a couple of unsuccessful attempts, I made it to the Täby church, one of the churches with best preserved paintings. This painting by Albertus Pictor is famous as it is unique and was the inspiration for Ingmar Bergman scene of the knight playing chess with death in its Seventh Seal movie.

The medieval Täby church dates from the mid 1200s' with possibly a wooden church. The church in stone was erected around the mid-1300s'. The vaulting was built in the 15th century to replace the wooden roof.

The paintings in the church are from Albertus Pictor and date 1480. Täby is one of the best preserved church as the paintings were never whitewashed over.
