Mariehamn, 27-28 July 2019

We conclude the week with Johan and Suzanne by getting in Mariehamn where they will be catching a ferry to get back to Stockholm. We chose to moor in the Österhamn marina (60.100136, 19.950013) for having had problems in the past in getting free berths in the Västerhamn.

Belisama (last on the left) in the Österhamn in Mariehamn

The approach to both marinas is straightforward. The marina on the north west (Kvarter on the map) is reserved for old ships with historical value that can moor free of charge. Not the case for Belisama therefore.

The Vasterham and the Österhamn marinas in Nynäshamn.
The temperature reaches 30°C on Mariehamn this Saturday and we are soon interrupting our bike ride to some historical chapels with frescos to get back to the boat for a swim. En route, we pass along this Kvarter historical marina that is really worth a visit.

Note the big stones in the hull of the boat on the picture below, for ballast.

The chapel has been constructed recently.

On the shipyard, a new galeas is being constructed. One can sponsor a part of the boat!

The helicopter in the picture below was taking tourists for a short ride around Mariehamn, from 9:00 to 18:00 on the two days we were in Mariehamn. Quite disrupting for us and for the mermaids on the wind vanes!

We did not have time and opportunity to visit the Pommern (again) in its new location, for lack of time. However, we could see it, and she is now directly accessible from the Mariehamn maritime museum, on a dock where one can go around her. Certainly remaining a must for anyone sailing to Mariehamn.
