What? Houat? 26-28 June 2022

From Vannes, we had a window of opportunity to moor for two days in Houat at 20 nautical miles, in Tréach Er Gourhed. Given the tides, we could only depart around 16:00 from Vannes, and reach Houat by 20:00. There were already around 40 ships mooring in this bay, but it was not a problem given our 1metre draft to find a place very close to the shore. Keep in mind that we are still in June, and the sailing season starts in mid-July, where you are likely to be in the hundred of sailing boat around here.

Despite winds from the West in the 8 to 10m m/s, from which we were protected, the night was a bit shaky because of a northern swell.

Nevertheless we went on shore the following morning with great pleasure. However, we realised a bit late that on Mondays, every place to eat or buy food is closed in Houat! In fact the boat from Quiberon is leaving on Mondays at 8 in the morning, and not many tourists are making the trip this early! Tyvärr (too bad) would say our Swedish sailor friends.

But wandering on the beach was enough to fulfil our day as it remains over the year an exceptional experience!

Saint Jacques, on Houat, on the way to Compostela?

On the way we saw the Houat harbour, and I should admit that I did not regret no to attempt to moor there as it looks so tiny that our 44.5 feet OVNI would not find her place there. But what a nice little harbour indeed!

Houat main harbour

The central place in Houat looks very very "Frenchy" with the church facing the town hall, and the war heroes monument in between along with the post office. All what makes a French village! Very nice.
