Stone ships are common around the Baltic see. Just in Gotland, you can find three-hundred-and-fifty of them. They were used as graves in the late bronze age. Deceased were cremated and the urn with bones and ashes were deposited around or in the stone ships.
We took the opportunity of the weekend to sail some of them...
The stone ship in
Djupvik is made of 40 stones and measures
13.5 m x 4 m.

The
Gannarve stone ship is located a few kilometres from Djupvik. It is considered as the most beautiful stone ship in Gotland. It measures 29 metres by 4.75 metres.

Rannarveskeppen is a stone ship site just north east of Klintehamn. The site consists of 4 ships of 9 metres by 5 metres each, perfectly aligned.
